St. Raphael's Episcopal Church
By Janet Knipfing-Schult, Chronicle Contributor
Fr. Marshall Scott was our celebrant today. The readings were The Acts of the Apostles (16: 9-15), Psalm 67, the Revelation to John (21: 10, 22-25), and John (14: 23-29). In his sermon, Fr. Marshall quoted Jesus, saying, “My peace I give you,” but also said, “This is not like the world’s peace; do not allow your hearts to be disturbed.” This isn’t about having no stress, but about not letting anxiety interfere with God’s call in the Spirit. Our example in this is Paul. He listens to the Spirit and is led to new places and new people to further expand the reach of the church. Paul traveled to Phillipi, where he met a woman named Lydia. Her heart was opened to what Paul said, and she and her household were baptized. Paul stayed awhile at her insistence.
